Getting involved in the club

Welcome to the PSLC Portmarnock Tennis Club. The following is a guide to help you get involved. Firstly, please make sure you are on the club emailing list as most communication is via email. Email committee@portmarnocktennis.com with your email address and mobile number and we will double check that you are on the relevant contact lists. All members of the committee monitor this email, so if you have any query it will be dealt with by the appropriate person. Club information is also posted on the club notice board located in the corridor opposite the changing rooms in the PSLC and on the club website.

Tennis Courts
The tennis courts are available for general member use if they are not pre-booked by the committee for coaching, tournaments, leagues, etc. Courts can be booked on line for a period of 1 hour.

Coaching
Organised group coaching and hitting events take place during the year and are notified to members by email (indicating the level of tennis). You can also book private lessons directly with any of the club coaches, their contact details are at www.portmarnocktennis.net/coaching/

Social Tournaments
We frequently organise social tournaments (commonly called American tournaments). These are open to players of any standard and the games are handicapped so all standards can play together in a fun environment. These are a great way to get to know other members and are generally followed by food in the clubhouse and drinks in the bar. Tournaments will be advertised by email so you just need to respond if you want to play. They fill up quickly so it’s important to respond promptly if you wish to take part.

Club Competitions
The summer championships run from June to September. There are a huge range of competitions to enter, some of which are seeded and others which apply to different age categories. The last two weeks of championship are very busy with many exciting matches taking place and the finals run over a friday evening and all day saturday followed by the ‘At Home’ that evening. This is the biggest social event of the year including a three course meal, dancing and a prize giving ceremony.
The club also holds ‘Winter Shield’ competitions, these are seeded doubles (Mens, Ladies and Mixed) which run from December to March every year. These are organised in a round robin format followed by knockout stages.

Inter Club Leagues
Inter club Leagues are a big part of club life for players who enjoy competitive tennis. There are two leagues in Dublin, the DLTC and Fingal leagues. We enter teams in as many classes as possible in DLTC and the Fingal League is a great place to start if you haven’t played league tennis before. Leagues are advertised by email. There is a selection process for places on teams.

Ladies
The ladies have very active monthly singles (4 matches) and doubles (3 matches) Round Robin competitions. In these competitions you play every other player in your box. Depending on the results you move up or down for the next month facilitating play with different opponents. To be added to the round robins you can email the lady captain at committee@portmarnocktennis.com or write your name and number on the bottom of the RR sheet on the notice board. If you don’t have a partner for the doubles competition the captain will try to find a partner for you. There is also a ladies American tournament every Wednesday morning followed by tea and scones in the tennis room. If you would like to take part you can add your name to the Wednesday morning list on the tennis noticeboard. Normally 12 ladies play in this group.
